Diagnostics is at the heart of the work at Psychotherapeutikum. On the one hand, diagnostics is an important instrument for improving quality of life: a better understanding of sleep patterns, stress management, life goals, cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and dysfunctional behaviors can serve as both orientation and optimization. On the other hand, the success of any psychotherapy – like any medical treatment – depends on the correct indication, and therefore on the correct diagnosis. Only a correct diagnosis ensures that not only symptoms but also the underlying causes are treated, maximizing the chances of recovery.

Methods

Our most important diagnostic tools include structured and semi-structured interviews, standardized questionnaires, and psychological test procedures. Structured interviews allow a systematic assessment of symptoms and a diagnosis based on the ICD-10 classification system. Semi-structured interviews offer the flexibility to capture individual particularities. Standardized questionnaires such as the Beck Depression Inventory measure the severity and presence of specific symptoms and allow a quantitative evaluation of the psychological state. Psychological test procedures – including projective and performance tests – provide deeper insight into personality structure and cognitive functioning.
